124th Annual Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club Open Exhibition

  • Salmagundi Club 47 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

Catharine Lorillard Wolfe (1828-1887) was a prominent New York philanthropist and art collector, and the only woman among the 106 founders of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In addition to bequeathing her painting collection to the museum, Ms. Wolfe left an endowment to Grace Church in Manhattan to promote “women’s work.” This endowment was the basis of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club which was established in 1896.

This highly competitive national, juried exhibition has been presented continuously for more than a century.

This year’s exhibition was presented in the Salmagundi Club, located on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Founded in 1871, the Club has been the singular gathering place for such great artists as Childe Hassam, William Merrit Chase, Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Ogden Pleisner and many others. Honorary members have included such luminaries as Sir Winston Churchill, Buckminister Fuller, Paul Cadmus, Al Hirschfeld, Thomas Hoving and Schuyler Chapin.
